Crystal-clear rivers. A vibrant downtown square. More character per square foot than anywhere else in the Hill Country corridor.
Get to Know San Marcos
San Marcos sits at the Balcones Escarpment where the Texas Hill Country meets the coastal plains. The San Marcos River springs from the Edwards Aquifer right in the middle of town, flowing cold and clear year-round through a city that has figured out how to build a life around it.
Home to Texas State University and roughly 67,000 residents, San Marcos is often called a college town — but that undersells it. The downtown square still belongs to the people who live here. The river is a way of life. And the city sits 30 miles southwest of Austin and 50 miles northeast of San Antonio, meaning serious commuter access without the price tag of either.
Local Adventures
San Marcos River Tubing — The river runs 72 degrees year-round from the Edwards Aquifer. Summer tubing from City Park is a genuine local institution.
